Panettone

Incredibly soft, sweet, and simply perfect!

Panettone is undoubtedly one of the most beloved Italian cakes around Christmas time. It was probably born in Milan around 1499 out of an emergency situation. During a reception for Prince Ludovico Sforza, the original dessert burned in the oven. The chef Antonio sacrificed his supply of yeast and, with flour, eggs, sugar, candied fruit, and raisins, managed to create a cake with a light and fluffy texture. This new dish was so well-received by the prince and other nobles that it was called Pan de Toni (Toni's bread), which eventually became the name "Panettone." This traditional cake is a must-have on Italian tables and a great lighter alternative to the classic German Christstollen or the traditional Christmas pudding.

The "Real" Traditional Panettone

Even today, there is a specific set of rules that defines the production and permitted ingredients so that this delicacy can officially be called the "Typical Panettone of Milanese Artisan Tradition." Only the following ingredients are allowed for the production of traditional panettone: water, flour, sugar, salt, yogurt, cocoa butter, butter, raisins, fresh eggs, pasteurized eggs, milk, condensed milk, candied orange and citron peels, and natural flavours such as honey, vanilla, and malt. Try our classic Nannini panettone or let Mondicaffe and its extraordinary panettone creations catapult you into a new dimension of taste. For those who love intense notes of chocolate and coffee, we recommend the Panettone from Hardy Caffè.
