Coffee for portafilter
Probably a PORTAFILTER coffee machine is one of the objects that almost everyone would like to have at home, displayed in the kitchen and always ready to be used. A true collector's item for coffee lovers and an authentic luxury for bars where tradition reigns supreme.
The arm coffee machine (portafilter), however, has nothing to do with modern automatic extraction machines, created specifically to simplify the work of those who prepare coffee and to create a product as constant as possible in taste and consistency.
This coffee machine, on the contrary, requires time, attention and care, but never guarantees a constant product. This coffee machine leaves the crucial elements of the extraction process to the human eye and the experience of those who use it.
Therefore, having to rely almost exclusively on the experience of those who prepare it, no coffee will ever be the same as the previous one and often this is exactly what the true connoisseurs of this piece of history like.
Why choose a portafilter coffee machine
Let's start from the assumption that coffee is an important ritual, to which one must dedicate the right time and attention, relaxing and enjoying a well-prepared and pleasant cup.
If coffee deserves a moment all of its own, its preparation also deserves the right amount of dedication, otherwise even the final result would be affected. With one of these machines you can prepare a real high level espresso only when you know the secrets of its operation.
Starting from the pressure, the temperature, the hardness of the water, the maintenance, the cleaning of the machine itself and ending with the various characteristics that the coffee used must have, from the type of variety, to the blend, the roasting and above all the degree of grinding.
The drink obtained is black, dense, fragrant and delicious and, precisely because no coffee made like this is the same as the previous one, many people perceive a different taste every time in this cup, often a little stronger, a little more bitter, but certainly more unique and full of passion.
The mixture
When it comes to choosing coffee for your espresso machine, you should always take the extraction process into account.
High pressure extraction - which in arm machines reaches a peak of 12, sometimes even 14 bar, in contrast to the 9 stable automatic machines - must meet the resistance of a fine, compact blend. In this way, the high-pressure water is quickly and correctly enriched with coffee extracts and transformed into a real espresso.
A blend with too coarse a grinder, on the contrary, would let the water filter without giving it the right intensity of taste and, what is worse, without letting it develop that fantastic cream that we are used to seeing our espresso coffee overpower.
A fine grinding is the key to obtaining the dense and balanced espresso expected from Italian tradition.
Our choice of coffee for espresso machine
Portafilter machine enthusiasts can take advantage of our selection of blends chosen specifically for these systems, with the most varied and exotic origins and the strangest but perfectly studied combinations.
Some names may be known, but many of our blends are selected based on quality and are not frequently found on the supermarket shelf.
This is because we are committed to ensuring a wide, but never trivial, offer that is varied in taste and aroma, preferring artisan roasters, where nothing is left to chance or the programming of a roasting machine and where you can taste and distinguish the experience of master roasters.
In this regard we have also put together 3 of our most beloved roasters in a tasting set for filter holders.
Robusta lovers, therefore, don't have to worry, because for them too there is a fair selection of varieties with a strong flavor and an important load of caffeine and energy. There are softer blends, mainly composed of Arabica, which offer a rounder and softer taste experience, like Hausbrandt Ground Espresso, but there are also stronger and more intense blends for those who need strong flavors, such as our Quarta Caffè Espresso Stuoia Famiglia.
